Introduction

Ascot House has been owned by the Wood Family since 1991 and we have constantly strived to improve our facilities, service and access for visitors of all ages including those with physical or mobility problems.

Pre-Arrival

Ascot House is one mile from the Historic City Centre.

There is a frequent bus service passing the front door with stops too and from the City within one hundred yards.

There is a good local taxi service with accessible vehicles and we can supply contact details.

Walking time to the City Centre is 15 to 20 minutes with no hills or gradients.

The Station is on the other side of the City Centre – 25 to 30 minutes walking.

We can be contacted by telephone, fax or e-mail and bookings can be made by any of these or directly through our online booking service via our website.

Arrival and Car Parking

Check-in is from 1.00pm. and assistance is available at any time.

There is a secure enclosed car park for twelve cars at the rear of the house.

The car park is covered by CCTV, has automatic lighting and is locked at night.

There is a level path from the car park and front gate to the main and only entrance, the front door.

There are three wide (2.2m) steps, each 14cm high, in the entrance.

Custom built ramps are available upon request.

We are happy to assist with luggage or equipment.

Entrance and Reception

The Front Door is 1.2m wide leading to a spacious reception area with seating and information leaflets on local attractions and restaurants.

All Guests are required to fill in a registration form.

The main desk is 106cm high and there is an additional one at 76cm which also has a computer with internet access available for guests use.

Public Areas – General Layout

Ground Floor

Leading from the reception area there is an ensuite twin bedroom, an ensuite double bedroom, a Residents Lounge and the Dining Room.

A 109cm wide staircase with 7cm high steps leads to:

The First Floor Landing where there are two ensuite double rooms, two ensuite family rooms and a double with a private bathroom.

The landing also leads, down a 75cm wide corridor and four 8cm high steps, to two further double ensuite bedrooms and a 70cm wide staircase with 8cm high steps to the –

Second Floor Landing having four more ensuite double bedrooms.

All doors from the hall and staircase are held open by electro-magnetic catches that are automatically released should the Fire Alarm be activated.

All floor areas are carpeted throughout.

Public Areas – WC

There is a WC for public use on the Ground Floor which has limited access with a 55cm wide doorway.

Residents Lounge

Accessed from the Reception Area or the Dining Room, the Lounge has comfortable seating for fourteen persons and adequate additional space for a wheelchair. A widescreen TV, magazines and books are available.

Dining Room

Breakfast is served from 8.00am. with last orders at 9.30am.

Waitress service is provided and assistance is given for those not able to easily access the self-service cold table.

Table heights are at 75cm and configurations of two, four or six persons are available which can all accommodate a wheelchair.

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and all other diets can be catered for. Please advise us before arrival if any of these are required.

Laundry

Laundry facilities are not available on the premises.

There are two laundrettes, open seven days a week, not far away – but a car or taxi would be advisable.

Shops

There is a small parade of shops just across the road including a ‘convenience store’ open seven days a week from 7.00am to 10.00pm.

There is also a Chemists and Hair Salon within 100m.

Leisure Facilities

Ascot House stands next to spacious Public Gardens containing a bowling green and a children’s play area.

There is a swimming pool one mile away.

There are two nearby pubs serving lunch and early evening meals.

Bedrooms

Ascot House has full central heating and all bedroom radiators have thermostatic controls.

All bedrooms are equipped with hairdryers, radio alarms, colour TV and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities and have storage facilities including wardrobes, hanging racks, chests of draws and bedside cabinets.

Additional Information

Ascot House has a recently installed an addressable fire alarm system with alarm sounders in every bedroom and all public areas. Approved fire fighting equipment is available on all landings. If you have a hearing or any other impediment, please make this known upon arrival which will ensure we are able to assist you in the event of an emergency.

Medical attention can be provided by East Parade Medical Practice which is directly opposite Ascot House.

York Hospital is just over one mile away.

There is a branch of Boots Chemists 100m along East Parade, going towards the City Centre.

Refrigeration of medical supplies is available upon request.

Internet access is available on a dedicated Guest computer in the Hall or if you wish to use your own laptop, wi-fi and hardwire connections are available in all bedrooms.
